Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) has long been accepted as the gold standard for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), but consistent data over the last decade shows that holmium enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) is the superior treatment option. This review summarizes the literature comparing HoLEP to therapies such as TURP, open prostatectomy, and alternative laser therapies.
