60 patients with both BPH and bladder outflow obstruction were randomized into two groups. One group received HoLEP treatment and the other received TURP treatment. The HoLEP group had shorter hospital stays, shorter catheterization, and more prostate tissue removed.

After six months, the TURP group had better results regarding their bladder outflow obstruction. However, at 24 months, there was no significant difference between the two groups except that two of the TURP patients had to undergo the treatment a second time.
